1. Recording your sources
You must always carefully cite the sources you are using in your papers, essays and theses. That is why it is of the utmost importance that at the time of reading you note down precisely which sources you are using, right from the start of your research. Note down the exact title description and page number of the source you are using. You must also indicate when you are using a particular passage literally (citation) and when your are using a passage in your own words (paraphrase).
2. Organise
File or store this information, and the source documents if you have them, in a manner and format that can be easily accessed at a later date. There are a number of software packages now available. At BUas it is possible to use EndNote, which you can use to manage your references. This program can be used to produce reference or works cited lists in a specified style. 3. Reference
Construct your in-text references, using the appropriate guidelines for the style of citation you are using.
4. List
Create either a reference or bibliography at the end of your essay or thesis.
