Add references into an EndNote library

To add a new reference manually direct in EndNote:

  1. Go to the top bar > references > new reference (CTRL+N)
  2. Select the appropriate reference type from the drop-down menu, and
  3. Enter data into fields. Not all fields have to be used. Use the Enter key to begin a new line in the same field; use the Tab key to jump to the next field.
  4. Click "save"

 

If you want to import a reference from Metasearch:

  1. select the cite option in either the full record or in the title list. 
  2. select the appropriate citation style (at BUas it's APA 7th)
  3. click tab export citation
  4. click export in RIS format
  5. open the downloaded record > EndNote will open with the imported reference

! When you import book references from the Metasearch, please check in EndNote that each imported reference has the correct reference type. The reference type might be labeled as "generic" instead of "book", resulting in an incorrect display of the citation in Word.

> Solution:
after importing the reference(s) in EndNote > click the concerning reference > click edit (top right) > select the correct  reference

For adding a reference from the library catalogue:

  1. select the full description
  2. click "save record" and
  3.  select "RIS"
  4. open the downloaded record > EndNote will open with the imported reference

! When you import book references from the library catalogue, please check in EndNote that each imported reference has the correct reference type. The reference type might be labeled as "generic" instead of "book", resulting in an incorrect display of the citation in Word.

  • Solution:
    after importing the reference(s) in EndNote > click the concerning reference > click "edit" (top right) > select the correct  reference

If you want to import a reference from Google Scholar:

  1. select the option "import into EndNote"
  2. open the downloaded record > EndNote will open with the imported reference

  • Solution:
    after importing the reference(s) in EndNote > click the concerning reference > click "edit" (top right) > select the correct  reference

If you want to import a reference from Elsevier Scopus:

  1. open the full record 
  2. click "Export"
  3. click "EndNote (RIS)"
  4. select the fields you want to import in EndNote
  5. click "Export"
  6. open the downloaded record > EndNote will open with the imported reference
